JOHN SSENTAMOU
FREE VILLAGE SCHOOL + QUIDDITCH TEAM FOUNDER, UGANDA
John is school teacher who founded a free village school for poor village children and a Rural Teachers Association. Ten years later, in 2020, a generous donor gifted money to built a new, spacious school building that enables precious add-ons like teenage tailor training studio and more. With YL and global partners, things get rolling : self-defense training for girls, campaigns to end domestic violence, community fruit tree nursery, dialog and projects with global schools …Â Â
John is awesome, because he founded Africa’s first Quidditch team for gender mixed sports, inspired a league of 6 teams and their National Team could have joined the World Cup in Germany, if visa delays had not sabotaged their participation.
He deserves our help, because he is a project-oriented fun educator (which is rare in frontal teaching Africa), loves YL’s scope of action, sees the many potentials in school spaces, public spaces, 20 nearby village and quickly turns ideas into action!Â
We seek to
help John inspire his students with hero*ine examples, spark quick youth-led actions with ripple effects in 20 nearby villages and to connect him with global schools to live global issues and SDGs in action – through dialog, project partnerships, one- and two-way visits.
